笠間焼は茨城県笠間市周辺で焼かれる陶磁器。毎年4月から5月に陶炎祭と呼ばれるイベントが開催されている。

特徴：硬質に焼き上がる粘土。黒釉などの流しがけ。

主な歴史：1772～1781年／信楽の陶工長右衛門の指導のもと久野半右衛門が焼き物を始めた。1789～1800年／藩主が陶業者に資金を与え保護奨励する。1869年／田中友三郎が笠間焼の販路開拓に成功し生産量が増える。1892年／順調に販路を拡大し笠間焼の生産高のピークを迎える。1992年／国の伝統的工芸品に指定。
